Lessons from High School Science Teachers

Pam Perkerson, Nancy Thompson, and Monica Haney

The attached are three lessons from the science department at Lassiter HS:  one chemistry (five downloads), one biology, and one for conceptual physics.

I gave this before a lab that we did in chemistry.  It practically is a lab but some of the information is already given rather than obtained for a lab.  It was set-up free and really allowed the kids to do well come lab day.

I have attached the instructions and datasheets for a project we are doing in Biology 102 at Lassiter.  Students, in groups of 3-4 individuals, construct "Ecosystem Columns" which they monitor for growth and changes as we add different treatments to the columns.  Students learn to make systematic observations, record data, work on graphing skills, build team skills, and learn how to use scientific equipment all while applying the ecological knowledge that we are covering from the textbook.
